Philadelphia, PA – (3/28/2011) – Yet another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse contest came down to the wire, but this time Chestnut Hill College fell short of their comeback falling 14-11 at Philadelphia University. The Lady Rams seized advantage after intermission to endure another late push from sophomore attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) and crew.

Philadelphia University (3-3, 2-0) held a narrow 7-6 halftime lead, after junior midfielder Kalin Hodel (West Chester, OH) scored the final goal of the opening period with 35 seconds remaining. Four unanswered goals at the start of the second half then separated the Lady Rams for an 11-6 advantage. The run cushioned the Lady Rams from a late Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 2-2) push, as Covella and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) directed the Griffins fleeting rally. Their effort brought the Griffins within two, 11-9, before a goal from senior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) made it a one-goal game, 12-11, with three minutes remaining (3:00). Unfortunately, the stalemate lasted for all of 21 seconds as the Lady Rams snared the conference with the games last two scores at 2:39 and 1:18, 14-11.

Freshman attack Emily Ray (Bedminster, NJ) led the Lady Rams with four goals, while junior attack Taylor Peltzer (Holland, PA) also helped freshman goalkeeper Cory Lombardo (Naples, FL) to the win (3-3) with two goals, two assists, and four draws. Lombardo made six saves and caused two turnovers.

Covella totaled five points with four goals and an assist for the Griffins. She was 3-for-3 (100.0%) on her free position attempts while also hustling to two draws. Alexander and Sanger each contributed two goals; Alexander also recovered two ground balls, two draws, and caused two turnovers. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) made nine saves and caused two turnovers in the loss (1-3).

The women's lacrosse team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, April 2, when they host Georgian Court University in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
