Norristown, PA – (4/20/2011) – The clouds parted over Latshaw-McCarthy Field today, as Chestnut Hill College welcomed Wilmington University for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Wildcat bats were consistent throughout the afternoon while a five-hit day for the Griffins was highlighted by a deep two-run double by freshman first baseman Joe Mullin (Warrington, PA) and some solid pitching from sophomore pitchers John Orr (Oceanside, NY) and Bob Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA).

A two-out walk to senior catcher Mike Godwin (Hockessin, DE) led to a Wilmington University (31-4, 14-1) scoring a run in the opening at-bat, 1-0. The Wildcats got another run in the third inning on a two-out, Godwin single, 2-0; before Chestnut Hill College (10-18, 6-9) got on the scoreboard with a run scoring single from  senior catcher Andrew Donofry (Hatboro, PA). A lead-off walk to senior third baseman D.J. Santoro Jr. (Jeffersonville, PA) started the Griffin fourth inning. Senior left fielder Mike Knipe (Sellersville, PA) replaced him at first with a fielder's choice and then quickly stole second base to put a runner in scoring position. A fly to left field advanced Knipe to third base before Donofry delivered the run, 2-1. Orr battled freshman pitcher Jamie Treml (Newark, DE) for seven innings, but the Wildcats got to the Griffin bullpen and survived to win the opener 7-4 with a three-run ninth inning. Mullin's deep double came in the Griffins final at-bat and scored Santoro and Donofry, who both reached on walks.

The Wildcat pitching controlled the second game, as a Santoro double broke up a no-hit bid in the seventh inning. Santoro eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from senior right fielder George Kochu (Pottstown, PA), 4-1, but that was the only blemish on a strong outing by junior pitcher Ryan Lally (Chalfont, PA). The Wildcats starter allowed one run on one hit and a walk over the first, seven innings; meanwhile the bullpen followed suit, and the lineup scattered five runs over nine innings to win the game 5-1. Hopkins allowed one earned run over six innings of relief work for the Griffins.

The baseball team remains home to host Nyack College in a 12:00 CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 23.
