Griffins End Skid, Triumph Over Eagles In High-Scoring Affair

Lafayette Hill, PA – (4/9/2011) – Defense was optional in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest as Chestnut Hill College and Post University combined for 42 goals in 60 minutes. The Griffins were triumphant, extending an 18-9 halftime advantage into a 27-15 win. Sophomore midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) gave an all-encompassing effort for the Griffins, totaling four goals, six assists, five ground balls, 15 draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
 
Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 3-2) wasted no time as Alexander found sophomore attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) for the game's first goal just 42 seconds (29:18) after the opening draw, 1-0. Eight minutes later (21:13), freshman midfielder Stephanie Marran (Patchogue, NY) put Post University (1-9, 0-7) on the scoreboard, but by that time the Griffins led 4-1. The high-paced scoring continued to halftime with Eagles narrowing the margin to two, 8-6 (13:14), before the Griffins hit another gear with a 10-3 run, 18-9. Alexander totaled six points by intermission, recording three goals and three assists.
 
An unassisted goal from senior midfielder Jillian Sanger (Bowmansville, PA) forced a running clock just 27 seconds into the second half (29:33); and after 5-2 Griffin run the margin reached 12, 23-11, midway through the closing period (15:29). The Eagles effort matched Griffins the rest of the way and as the dust settled on a Victory Field #1; the home team claimed a 14-point win.
 
Marran led the Eagles with four goals, three assists, and nine draws. Senior attack Mallory Michalak (Meriden, CT) also scored four goals while freshman goalkeeper Jacqueline Jolles (Hamden, CT) recovered four ground balls and made 19 saves in the loss (1-9).
 
Sophomore attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) led the scoring for the Griffins with six goals; Squillante and junior attack Kelly McKay (Perkasie, PA) each scored five times. Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Pennell (Hopkinton, NH) played a majority of the minutes in net and earned the win (3-1) for the Griffins. She made four saves in the last 34:28.       
 
The women's lacrosse team breaks from their CACC schedule to play Kutztown University in a 4:00 p.m. contest on Monday, April 11.
