Box Score 2 East Stroudsburg, PA – (9/3/2011) – After a deflating loss to Caldwell College, 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-11, 25-15), Chestnut Hill College regrouped and delivered a 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-19) victory over, host, East Stroudsburg University (ESU) to even up on their final day of competition at the ESU Tournament. Liz DiGregorio (Conshohocken, PA), complimented their effort.
Chestnut Hill College (1-1) started well against Caldwell College (2-0), winning the opening set 25-23. The Cougars responded by taking the next two sets from the Griffins 25-11, 25-11, before sealing the victory with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. Chukuntarod offered 28 assists, helping DePalma to a team-high, ten kills. Freshman right side
Katie Schock (Allentown, PA) totaled eight kills, while junior middle hitter
Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) helped on both sides of the net with five kills and three blocks. DiGregorio anchored the defense with 24 digs, DePalma pitched in with eight digs and a block.
DePalma scored 16 kills in the day's second match, which placed Chestnut Hill College (2-1) opposite ESU (1-2). The Griffins defeated the Warriors, taking the first, two sets 26-24, 26-24, before completing the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set. DePalma was helped by Schock and Benson, who were consistent with eight kills and five kills, respectively. Benson also posted three more blocks to help DiGregorio and sophomore middle hitter
Mary Markowski (Parkton, MD) on defense. Markowski also made three blocks, while DiGregorio hustled to 18 digs. Chukuntarod was useful on both sides of the net, totaling 35 assists and nine digs.
The women's volleyball team will travel next to Lincoln University, where they will challenge the Lions in a 6:00 p.m. match on Tuesday, September 6.
