Gorczynski Good From Far, But Griffins Fall to Tigers

Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (1/10/2012) – Freshman guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, NJ) totaled 12 points at halftime and finished 6-of-10 (60.0%) from three-point range, but it was Holy Family University would captured a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory in tonight's cross-city matchup. The Tigers defeated Chestnut Hill College for the second time this season, doing so by an 85-69 final.
 
Holy Family University (10-6, 6-1) used a 27-10 mid first-half run to hold a 39-33 halftime advantage over Chestnut Hill College (2-12, 1-6). The Griffins controlled play off the opening tip, grabbing an early lead, 18-9 (14:22), behind the play of freshman guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, NJ). The Tigers then answered, receiving five consecutive points from sophomore guard Mary Ellen McCollum (Abington, PA), who ignited a 27-10 run which left the home team a 36-28 advantage with 4:41 remaining in the opening period. They led 39-33 at halftime despite four threes (4-of-6, 66.7%) from Gorczynski. Following intermission, the Tigers slowly grew their lead behind a superior second-half shooting performance (50.0%-38.9%). The deficit reached to 21, 83-62 (3:14) before settling on an 85-69 final.
 
Despite the key buckets from McCollum, junior guard Molly Hanlon (Narberth, PA) led the Tigers with 17 points and five assists. McCollum finished with 16 points; junior forward Kelly Brady (Ocean City, NJ) totaled 14 rebounds, and sophomore forward Maggie Serratelli (Bethlehem, PA) recorded 11 points.
 
Gorczynski totaled 18 points to lead all scorers. In addition to hitting six from long range, she provided three rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Junior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, GA) offered 12 points and four rebounds in her second start of the season, while sophomore forward Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, NJ) led the Griffin rebounding effort with six. Freshman guard Lila Jones (Lansdale, PA) contributed 12 points and three rebounds.
 
The women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Monday, January 16, for their next CACC affair. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
