Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (1/18/2012) – The steadying play of senior forward Ashlen Stayrook (Pickerington, OH) and junior guard Asha Jones (New Castle, DE) helped Chestnut Hill College capture a 63-60 overtime victory from Georgian Court University this evening. The Griffins stole the lead in the final five minutes of regulation, before separating for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win in the extra frame. Stayrook totaled 12 second-half points to finish with a team-high, 14 points.

Georgian Court University (2-14, 1-8) led 30-25 at halftime and they held the advantage until a layup from junior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) brought all things even, 47-47, with 5:32 remaining in regulation. Stayrook scored the next two buckets of the affair as Chestnut Hill College (3-13, 2-7) stole the lead, 51-47 (3:48), thanks to Jones' calming backcourt presence. A flurry of fouls and free throws filled the final three minutes leaving the contest tied, 53-53, with 46 seconds left in regulation. The Lions grabbed a 55-53 edge with a layup from freshman forward Tahira Matthews (Bloomfield, NJ), but 22 seconds was too much time to leave the Griffins, as Stayrook gathered a loose ball and scored it to knot the contest at 55-55 with only four seconds left to play. Overtime followed and the play of Stayrook and Jones continued, helping the Griffins endure for their second league win.

Junior guard Ebony Sellers (Camden, NJ) led the Lions with 13 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Fellow junior guard Shauneia McPhearson (Chicago, IL) offered ten first-half points before finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a steal. Matthews also reached double figures, 11 points, while tying for the team lead in rebounds, with nine, and making three steals.

After recording only a block in her three first-half minutes, Stayrook recorded five rebounds, and three assists while netting her 14 points through the second half and overtime. Freshman guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, NJ) carried the Griffins through the opening half with nine points in the period. She logged more time on the court than anyone else (41 minutes) while totaling 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals in the best performance of her young, collegiate career. Senior center Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) headlined effort on the glass with nine rebounds.
