Box Score Rutherford, NJ – (1/28/2012) – A career performance from junior guard
Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, NJ) led Chestnut Hill College to a 78-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory at Felician College this afternoon. The Griffin gunner hit on all four (4-of-4, 100.0%) of his first-half, three-point attempts to make the difference in a 41-26 halftime spread and he hit a crucial, rally-stopping rain-maker that helped put the Golden Falcons away for good.
Felician College (6-12, 3-7) held a slight advantage off the opening tip, 5-0 (18:46), but DiRugeris soon went to work, swaying the momentum in the favor of Chestnut Hill College (14-7, 7-2). The Griffins first-half lead would max-out at 19, 38-19, coming by way of DiRugeris' fourth three-point basket of the period. He would finish the half with 18 points, hitting 5-of-9 (55.6%) from the field and 4-of-4 (100.0%) at the free throw line. The Griffins held a 41-26 advantage at the break, but they would still have to endure one last Golden Falcon rally. Junior forward David Williamson (Bronx, NY) and sophomore guard Tajric Boggs (Coram, NY) came off the Golden Falcon bench to bring the home team back within eight, 67-59, in the final five minutes (4:54), but DiRugeris' final three silenced the comeback and the Griffins game-clinching free throws soon followed.
Williamson totaled 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Golden Falcons, Boggs offered 11 points. Junior guard Antoine Obery (Roselle, NJ) also scored 11 points while also contributing eight rebounds and five assists to the Golden Falcon effort.
DiRugeris recorded a career and season-high with 35 points. He was 8-of-17 (47.1%) from the field, 5-of-7 (71.4%) from three-point territory, and 14-of-15 (93.3%) from the free throw line, while also collecting four rebounds and supplying two assists in his stellar performance. Senior forward
Dan Comas (Philadelphia, PA) complimented DiRugeris with contributions on both sides of the court; 15 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and a steal, while junior guard
Francis Ashe (Greenbelt, MD) chipped in with seven rebounds and six assists.
The men's basketball team visits the University of the Sciences for their next CACC contest. An 8:00 p.m. tip-off is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1.
