Box Score Bronxville, NY – (1/7/2012) – Chestnut Hill College paced the opening half of this afternoon Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Concordia College (NY), but in the end the play of junior guard Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) led the Clippers to a home victory, 69-65, with ten points in the final 8:19. The Griffin effort was led by junior forward
Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA), who totaled 17 points and four rebounds.
The rebounding of senior forward Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) helped a balanced Concordia College (4-10, 3-4) keep up with Chestnut Hill College (2-11, 1-5), who led by as many as nine, 21-13, with 7:32 to play in the first period. Led by the perimeter play of freshman guard
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, NJ and junior guard
Marqesah Spicer (Philadelphia, PA) the Griffins led the Clippers at intermission 35-33; both totaled eight points, Gorczynski hitting two from long, and Spicer directing the offense with three assists. Unfortunately, five straight points from the Clippers junior guard Sade Jones (Patterson, NJ) erased the Griffins halftime advantage and left the home team with a 38-35 lead just a minute (19:04) into the closing frame. Alexander answered for Chestnut Hill College, pushing the Griffins to a six-point lead, 52-47, with 12 points over an eight-minute stretch (11:17). The lead reached as many as seven, 59-52, on a Spicer layup as play headed toward the final six minutes (6:14), but the late play of Agard sparked the Clippers on a game-winning 17-6 six run.
Agard scored two baskets and four free throws in the Clippers rallying effort. She finished the contest with 20 points which was only matched by her teammate, Jones. Agard provided seven rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks in addition to her scoring. Jones grabbed six rebounds. Blakemore finished with nine points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
Alexander was 6-of-10 (60.0%) from the field, she hit two from beyond the arch (2-of-3, 66.7%) while also converting 3-of-4 (75.0%) at the line in her team-leading performance. Spicer finished with 11 points in addition to her assists while Gorczynski recorded ten points as the third Griffin in double figures. Senior guard
Aiesha Smith (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman guard
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, NJ) contributed on both sides of the floor. Smith totaling five assists and two steals and Townsend-Mobley chipping in with seven points and four steals.
The women's basketball team heads to Holy Family University for their next CACC contest; a 6:00 p.m. tip-off is scheduled for Tuesday, January 10.
