Griffins to Challenge Goldey-Beacom College In CACC Championship Tournament

New Haven, Conn. – (10/15/2012) – As another fall season of competition comes to a close, the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team awaits their third consecutive trip the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament. With a 6-2 league mark, the Griffins have earned the #3 seed and will challenge #2 Goldey-Beacom College in a 1:00 p.m. quarterfinal match on Saturday, October 20. The CACC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts, #1 Concordia College (NY) and #4 Holy Family University square off in the early match.
 
Chestnut Hill College (10-2, 6-2) dominated their 2012 fall schedule, convincingly taking down several regional and conference opponents for their third straight season of at least ten wins. The Griffins opened the year with four consecutive wins and only suffered CACC losses to Concordia College (NY), 5-4 on Saturday, September 15, and Goldey-Beacom College, 8-1 on Friday, September 28, before closing out their schedule with another four-win run. Five Griffins earned recognition on the CACC Weekly Reports, most notably was junior Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio), who was the CACC Player of the Week of on September 4 and a two-time honorable mention for the award (9/11 and 10/10), and freshman Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario), who garnered two CACC Rookie of the Week awards (9/4 and 9/11).
 
The Griffins traveled to Goldey-Beacom College on Friday, September 28, for their regular-season CACC meeting with the Lightning. Chestnut Hill College won its only point at number three singles, where senior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Unfortunately, the Lightning won the match by an 8-1 final. The Griffins and Lightning squared off as the #2 and #3 seed in last year's CACC Championship Tournament as well; the Lighting advanced past the higher seeded Griffins on a 5-2 final.
