11/17/2012 12:02:00 AM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (11/16/2012) – In a high-paced affair, Chestnut Hill College fell to Molloy College by an 83-81 final. The visiting Lions attacked from long range, taking 40 of their 73 shots from three-point territory, while the Griffins kept pace with a better field percentage (43.5% - 35.6%) and some grit. The Griffins were led by a backcourt combination sophomore guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) and senior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) who combined for 37 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and five steals.

The contest came down to the wire with both sides scoring in their own way, with Molloy College (2-1) firing from beyond the arch and Chestnut Hill College (1-3) taking the ball to the hoop. The opponents met for the last time at 70-70 with 4:30 left to play. Over the next four minutes they traded runs until a Gorczynski three, her only long range bucket of the night (1-of-11, .091), and a Laing layup left the Griffins up three 81-78. Unfortunately, the Lions quickly answered Laing's lay-in with one of their own, 81-80 (0:41), before an ill-timed Griffin turnover allowed the Lions to a go-ahead bucket, 82-81 (0:32) and an insurance free throw, 83-81 (0:09), in the final seconds.

Senior guard Ashley Addison (East Hanover, N.J.) and junior guard Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y.) led the Lions three-point barrage. Each totaled 17 points and hit five from long range; Addison also recorded three rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while Guerriero hustled to seven rebounds and an assist. Senior forward Ikema Ross (East Patchogue, N.Y.) was also a key contributor for the Lions with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Gorcyznski was the leading force for the Griffins with a renaissance effort; 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and three steals. Laing was a worthy sidekick with 18 points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals. Three other Griffins finished in double figures. Sophomore guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) and senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) each totaled a dozen points while junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) finished with ten points.

The women's basketball team continues their non-conference schedule on Saturday, November 24, when they travel to St. Anselm College for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
