Box Score Bloomsburg, Pa. – (11/9/2012) – The 2012-2013 Chestnut Hill College women's basketball season opened today as the Griffins traveled to Bloomsburg University for the first contest of the year. The Huskies appeared more comfortable on their home floor, mounting a 44-27 halftime lead before defeating the Griffins by an 84-54 final. Midway through the second half, guards, senior Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) and sophomore Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) found their touch to bring the Griffins within ten, 57-47, before the Huskies closed the affair on a 24-7 run.

Facing a 17-point halftime deficit, 44-27, Chestnut Hill College (0-1) began to chip away at the cumbersome Bloomsburg University (1-0) lead behind the paint play of junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) and the sharpshooting efforts of Laing and Gorczynski. Bouie established herself in the lane with two quick buckets and cut the Huskies lead to 48-33 with 17:33 remaining in the game. Unfortunately, a brief Huskies reprise forced the margin back to 19, 54-35, with 15:53 remaining. That's when Laing and Gorczynski joined the fray; Gorczynski book-ending two Laing threes with a lay-up and a trifecta of her own to make the score 57-44 with 14:05 on the game clock. From there, Bouie took the Huskies lead down to ten, 57-47, adding to the Griffins 14-5 run with scores on back-to-back possessions. After Bouie's free throws, senior guard Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Pa.) helped the Huskies turn the tide. She scored seven in the finishing run and led all players with 19 points.

Oxenrider's backcourt partner, senior guard, Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Pa.) led the Huskies to their 17-point first-half lead with 15 of her 17 points coming in the opening period. Oxenrider added five assists and two steals to her scoring efforts, while fellow senior guard Lauren Ellis (Bangor, Pa.) was the third Husky in double-digits with a ten-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Laing's 17 points topped the Griffins scoring. She hit 4-of-6 (66.7%) from long range and grabbed three rebounds. Gorczynski scored three shots from beyond the arch (3-of-8, .375) en route to a 13-point performance. She also contributed three rebounds, three assists, and a steal to the Griffin effort. Bouie finished the evening with seven points and eight rebounds.

The women's basketball team returns home to host Lock Haven University on Monday, November 12, when they welcome the Eagles to Sorgenti Arena for a 6:00 p.m. home opener.
