Turnovers Let Bears Overturn Griffins

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (12/15/2012) – A late first-half run allowed the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) to establish an eight-point, 31-23, halftime advantage and the margin grew from there as the Chestnut Hill College turnovers continued through the second half. The margin reached 27 by game's end, 75-48, as the Bears claimed victory over the Griffins with a 48-point period. Senior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) led the home team with 15 points.
 
Chestnut Hill College (1-9) spread the ball around in the first half, but with 6:05 remaining NYIT (9-0) clung to a 19-18 lead. Behind the play of graduate guard Nikki Jo Rotolo (Rome, N.Y.) the Bears made the deficit eight points, 26-18, just over two minutes later (3:48), and there it remained at the break, 31-23. After intermission, sophomore guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) brought Griffins back within five, 36-31 (17:21), but the turnovers began to catch up with the home team as the Bears lead reached ten points, 41-31, at 15:22, 20 points at 8:16, 56-36, and reached its max of 28 points, 68-40, with three minutes to go (3:03). In the end the spread settled at 27, 75-48, with Rotolo scoring last two of her game-high 20 points at the free throw line.
 
Rotolo recorded nine rebounds, two assists, a block, and five steals in addition to her scoring performance. Junior guard Demitra Apergis (Littleton, Colo.) and senior guard Rebecca Lynch (Hillsdale, N.J.) also finished in double figures. Apergis offered 19 points, five assists, and two steals, while Lynch ten points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
 
Laing scored 11 of her team-leading points in the second half. She was complimented in the Griffin backcourt by Townsend-Mobley, who provided six points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) finished with eight points, four rebounds, and a block.
 
The women's basketball team resumes their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, December 19, with a 12:00 p.m. home contest against Goldey-Beacom College.
