Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (12/19/2012) – Scoring seemed to be the only thing that gave Francis Ashe (Hyattsville, Md.) trouble this afternoon, as Chestnut Hill College's senior guard directed the Griffins to a 76-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over Goldey-Beacom College with four points, 13 rebounds, 13 assists, two blocks, and four steals. The Lightning held a 39-38 advantage after a closely played first half, but in the closing frame a 25.9% (7-of-27) shooting performance and the effects of Ashe's game wore on the visitors.

Able to get to the free throw line a little more often, Goldey-Beacom College (5-8, 2-3) enjoyed a narrow 39-38 halftime edge over Chestnut Hill College (5-6, 2-2). Taking advantage of some poor Lightning shooting, the Griffins crashed the boards at the start of the second half to grab an eight point lead, 49-41, with 14:15 remaining in the closing period. The margin hovered there until Ashe's primary benefactor, senior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, N.J.) finally sent the Griffins on a run. The Griffin lead grew to as many 15 points, 73-58, on a Ashe free throw with 2:44 to play, but after some last-minute offense from Lightning junior guard A.J. Picard (Skippack, Pa.) and a last-second three-pointer from Griffin sophomore guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) the final score settled in the home team's favor, 76-62.

Sophomore guard Marcus Porter (Wilmington, Del.) led the Lightning with a minimum double-double effort of 20 points and ten rebounds. Picard finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

After totaling four rebounds, seven assists, a block, and a steal in the first half, Ashe turned it on in the closing frame. He went on to set career-highs in both rebounding, 13, and assists, 13, while also establishing a program mark for the highest single-game combination of those statistical categories. In keeping with the historical theme, DiRugeris led the Griffins in scoring with 25 points to pass Dan Comas '12 as the program's second all-time leading scorer (1,312 points). He did so with his last point; a free throw that landed the Griffins a 66-55 lead heading to the final five minutes of play (5:21). Sophomore center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished the contest with his third double-double, 21 points and ten rebounds, in four CACC contests. Dickson was the third Griffin in double figures, recording 12 of the Griffins 17 bench points.

The men's basketball team plays their final contest of 2012 at C.W. Post University, when they visit the Pioneers for a 3:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, December 29.
