Laing Leads Griffins in Loss to Bloomfield College

Box Score Bloomfield, NJ – (2/18/2012) – Junior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, GA) led Chestnut Hill College with nine points in today's contest against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rivals, Bloomfield College. Laing hit 3-of-9 (33.3%) field goals, including two, three-point baskets, unfortunately her effort was not enough in today's matchup, as the Deacons went on for a 61-45 victory.
 
During the opening minutes of today's contest, the odds looked favorable as Chestnut Hill College (6-19, 5-13) kept up with Bloomfield College (11-14, 9-9). Junior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) hit a jumper to start the game. Unfortunately, the first half did not end the way it began with Bloomfield leading 35-19. Bloomfield hit the gas in the final five minutes of the first half to go on a 12-0 run. However, during the second half the Griffins did not give up and showed resilience and determination. The Griffins and the Deacons scored 26 points apiece in the second half; it was the first half that essentially provided the outcome of the game. Assisting Laing were teammates sophomore forward Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, NJ) and senior forward Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA). Farrow provided eight points, and went 4-of-4 (100.0%) on her field goals. Washington was a defensive force for the Griffins and provide the team with nine rebounds and six points.
 
Senior Guard Emily Hall (Montclair, NJ) led the Lady Deacons with an impressive 22 points and hit a perfect 5-of-5 (100.0%) from the free throw line. Hall's dominant play was just enough to provide the edge against the Griffins. Assisting Hall were teammates Senior Guard Dale Samuels (Denver, CO) and Junior Forward Shaniqua Bacote (Patterson, NJ). Samuels provided the Deacons with eight points, and three defensive rebounds. Bacote supported the Deacons with seven points along with three steals and two blocks.
 
The women's basketball team returns home for their final game of the season against CACC rivals, Goldey-Beacom College this coming Tuesday, February 21, at 6:00 p.m. During this final game we will provide recognition to our seniors during “Senior Night”.
