Box Score Philadelphia, PA – (2/21/2012) – Tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest between Chestnut Hill College and Goldey-Beacom College was tied as late as 6:50 in the second half, 36-36, as the Griffins used 18 second-half Lightning turnovers to keep the contest close. Unfortunately, missed shots did the Griffins in down the stretch as the Lightning used a 6-0 run to separate for a 50-43 victory. Ebony Washington (Philadelphia, PA) for their contribution to the women's basketball program.
After a low scoring first half, 35 combined points, the CACC rivals both took to court in the second half looking to improve. Goldey-Beacom College (19-7, 14-5) did better shooting-wise (12-of-25, 48.0%), but with 18 second-half turnovers the Lightning helped Chestnut Hill College (6-20, 5-14) keep pace despite a 22.2% (8-of-36) second-half shooting performance . Latoya Laing (Snellville, GA) brought the Griffins even at 36-36, but behind the inside-out play of junior forward Akilah Sewell (Baltimore, MD) and junior guard Ashley Rosario (Levittown, PA) the Lightning grabbed a 42-36 cushion heading to the final five minutes of play (5:55). A layup from Washington brought the Griffins back within one, 42-41, with 4:13 remaining, but after a Sewell steal and fastbreak layup at 3:46, 44-41, the Lightning sealed victory with the necessary free throws, 50-43.
Rosario led the Lighting and all scorers with 15 points. She also contributed nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals to the winning effort. Junior guard Devonne Richardson (Baltimore, MD) offered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Sewell was a factor on both ends of the court with eight points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and two steals. Sophomore forward Briana Richmond-Peters (Camden, NJ) chipped in ten points.

Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) was the Griffins leading scorer with 11 points; she also recorded five rebounds and a block. Laing finished with ten points.
The women's basketball team finishes the 2011-2012 season at 6-20 overall and 5-14 in the CACC.
