Lions Spoil Women’s Lacrosse Home Opener

Lafayette Hill, PA – (3/10/2012) – Junior attack Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ) netted the first goal of today's contest against Molloy College, but it would be Chestnut Hill College playing catch-up as the Lions outscored the Griffins 22-3 over the remaining game clock. The Lions claimed a 22-4 victory. Junior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, NJ) finished as the Griffins leading performer with two goals, three ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
 
Senior midfielder Emily Antonette (Seaford, NY) led the Molloy College (3-2) charge, totaling nine points with six goals and three assists. She also controlled three draws and caused one turnover. Junior attacks, Alexa Toscano (Bethpage, NY) and Kaitlynn Kelly (Rockville Centre, NY) supported Antonette with five points apiece; Toscano with three goals and two assists, and Kelly with five goals. Defensively, junior midfielder Nicole Mastrianni (Seaford, NY) captained the Lion effort with three caused turnovers and eight draw controls. Freshmen goalkeepers, Laura Vetter (Great River, NY) and Caitlin Cooksey (Wantagh, NY), split time in the cage; Vetter earning the win (3-2) with a save and a ground ball while Cooksey recorded three saves in the second half.
 
In addition to Timony, Covella offered a strong performance for Chestnut Hill College (0-1) with two ground balls, two draw controls, and a caused turnover to accompany her first goal of the season. Junior attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, NY) was responsible for the other Griffin goal. Junior goalkeeper Jenn Delahanty (Staten Island, NY) totaled 14 saves, two ground balls, and caused two turnovers despite taking the loss (0-1)       
 
The women's lacrosse team will head to Philadelphia University on Thursday, March 15, to open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with a 3:00 p.m. contest against the Lady Rams.
