Box Score 2 Lyndhurst, NJ – (4/15/2012) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play continued at Felician College for the Chestnut Hill College softball team, who dropped two games to the Golden Falcons; The Griffin lost the opener 10-1 in five-innings and the game two 5-0. Senior catcher
Gina DeAnnuntis (Hammonton, NJ) recorded a hit in each contest and knock in the Griffin lone run of the doubleheader with a game-one, fifth-inning triple.
Felician College (11-31, 9-13) got out to an early lead in the opener with a run the first inning, 1-0, and a five-run second inning, 6-0. They added four more runs in the fourth inning, using three hits and a third Chestnut Hill College (2-24, 2-18) error to extend their lead to 10-0, before the Griffins ruined the shutout with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Cassie Benson (Rosamond, CA) led the at-bat off with a single through the right side and DeAnnuntis followed with a triple to right field to bring Benson around to score, 10-1. Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons shut the door with an out at the plate and a eighth strikeout from junior pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, CA), who earned the win (6-16) by allowing one run on three hits.
The Griffins recorded five hits in the second game, but failed to get on the scoreboard in a 5-0 Golden Falcon win. Sophomore left fielder
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Spring, FL) led off the affair with a single to left field and after a double play, junior first baseman
Giana Cavallo (Turnersville, NJ) gave the Griffins another chance to get things started with a double to left center. Unfortunately, the Griffins would go quietly with the third out of the inning coming on a fly ball to center field. Later, DeAnnuntis led off the third inning with a single, freshman shortstop
Brittany Hoban (Toms River, NJ) recorded a two-out double in the fifth inning, and freshman third baseman
Caitlin O'Neill (Elkton, MD) had a two-out single in the sixth inning, but the Griffins were unable to bring any runs around on freshman pitcher Macy Chase (Sacramento, CA), who earned win for the Golden Falcons (3-7) by holding the Griffins scoreless on five hits and a walk. She struck out four.
The softball team returns home to host their next CACC doubleheader, as the Griffins welcome Wilmington University to campus on Tuesday, April 17, for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
