Griffins and Golden Bears Split a Pair

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kutztown, PA – (4/2/2012) – After losing the first game of today's doubleheader, 7-1, Chestnut Hill College earned a split with #30 Kutztown University with a 4-2 victory in the second game. Sophomore designated hitter Ray Puskar (Green Lane, PA) recorded three hits and knocked in the Griffins lone run in the opener, then led off the sixth inning of game two with a single to become the final run of afternoon.
 
Kutztown University (21-9) knotted the first game in the bottom of the fourth inning, 1-1, only for Chestnut Hill College (15-11) to answer with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman designated hitter Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, NY) led of the Griffin at-bat with a single back up the middle. Senior Eric Blood (Perkasie, PA) relieved him at first base, before advancing to second base on a wild pitch, and reaching third base on a sacrifice bunt from junior catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, PA). Freshman center fielder Nick Naumann (Bel Air, MD) brought Blood home with a single to left center field, 2-1, and would later score on a wild pitch after reaching third base on a double from senior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA), 3-1. The Golden Bears got one back in their half of the fifth inning, scoring on an unassisted grounder to first base after loading the bases with one out, 3-2, but Puskar provided a cushion for the Griffin pitching staff.  Sophomore pitcher Jim Goodwin Jr. (Delran, NJ) earned the win (3-0) while junior shortstop Joe Crane (Newtown, PA) worked the final 1.2 innings to collect his second save (2) of the season. Latchum led the line-up with two hits.
 
Puskar put the Griffins on the scoreboard first in the opener, plating senior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) with a double to center field in the first inning, 1-0. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears scored six runs in the third inning with a one-out single to right, a walk, two hit batsman, another single, and a grand slam from freshman right fielder Travis Kreitz (Gilbertsville, PA), 6-1. They added one more in the fifth inning for the 7-1 final.
   
The baseball team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Wilmington University on Thursday, April 5.
