Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Norristown, PA – (4/21/2012) – Chestnut Hill College's return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play was a battle as the Griffins forced Caldwell College to extra innings in the opener, only to lose 6-5 in 11 innings. The Griffins split the twin bill with a 9-4 victory in game two. Senior first baseman Andrew Koziol (Wilmington, DE) tied the opener with a sacrifice fly and knocked in a run in the Griffin half of the 11th inning, but the Cougars still came out on top. In game two, sophomore first baseman Ray Puskar (Green Lane, PA) recorded four hits (4-for-5), including a run-scoring single in the Griffins five-run seventh inning.

Caldwell College (11-24, 8-8) owned 3-0 lead after their third-inning at-bat of game two, but Chestnut Hill College (19-19, 5-11) chipped away at the Cougar lead before erupting for five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Senior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA) scampered home on a third-inning passed ball, 3-1, Koziol knocked in a fourth-inning run with a one-out grounder to second base, 3-2, and then scored on a sixth-inning passed ball to knot the game at 3-3. In the seventh inning, senior left fielder Alex Latchum (Warrington, PA) led off with a single, before a pitching change and a triple from sophomore designated hitter Joe Mullin (Warrington, PA) started the avalanche, 4-3. A single for Puskar made it 5-3, a two-out Koziol single made it 6-3, a triple right center for junior catcher Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, PA) made it 7-3, and a single from freshman right fielder Mike McLaughlin (Philadelphia, PA) made it 8-3, Griffins. The Griffins added one more run in the eighth inning, 9-3, and the Cougars one in the ninth for the 9-4 final. Freshman pitcher Dom Raia (Philadelphia, PA) earned the win (3-4) for the Griffins, allowing one earned run on ten hits. He struck out three.

The Griffins trailed the Cougars throughout the opener, but eventually Koziol tied the affair with a, ninth-inning, one-out, pinch-hit, sacrifice fly, 4-4. The tenth inning went by scoreless and with two Griffin errors in the 11th inning, the Cougars were able to take a two-run advantage 6-4. In the bottom of the frame, Koziol plated McLaughlin with a two-out single, but rally was cut short with a swing-and-a-miss on the next Griffin at-bat. Daywalt, Mullin, and junior shortstop Joe Crane (Newtown, PA) each recorded two hits, while junior pitcher Bob Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) allowed three earned runs on three walks and eight hits in an eight-inning, no decision.

The baseball team continues CACC play at the University of the Sciences on Wednesday, April 25, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
