th inning to defeat Bloomfield College 10-4 in the first game of today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Deacons got revenge in the second game, splitting the twin bill with a 9-2 win. Freshman third baseman
Taylor Steen (New Egypt, NJ) was 3-for-6 in the opener, knocking in five runs with three doubles.
Steen walked to lead-off the Chestnut Hill College (16-14, 4-6) half of the 13

Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA), a hit batsman, and a triple from junior shortstop
Joe Crane (Newtown, PA) brought home the Griffins first three runs of the frame, 6-3. The Griffins then reloaded the bases with run-scoring single from senior first baseman
Andrew Koziol (Wilmington, DE), 7-3, a single from freshman right fielder
Mike McLaughlin (Philadelphia, PA), and a Bloomfield College (15-11, 9-2) error. They cleared them again on Steen's last double, which came with two outs, 10-3. The Deacons got one back in the bottom of the inning, but it would not be enough, 10-4. Junior pitcher
Bob Hopkins (Philadelphia, PA) gave a strong effort in the no decision, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three over 11 innings of work. Crane earned the win (2-1) taking the mound for the final two frames. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out one.
The Deacons retaliated with runs early in game two. They scored one run in the first inning, four in the third inning, two in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to hold a commanding 9-0 lead after five innings. Steen tripled with one out in the Griffin half of the sixth inning, allowing Daywalt break the shutout with a grounder to second base, 9-1. The next two frames went by scoreless, before the Griffins brought home their final run of contest in the ninth inning. With no outs, sophomore designated hitter
Ray Puskar (Green Lane, PA) grounded out to second base to bring home Daywalt, who reached on a walk before advancing to third base on two wild pitches, 9-2.
The baseball team returns home to host the University of the Sciences in a 5:00 p.m. non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 10.
