Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/17/2012) – The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team competed as as a team for the first time this year in today's non-conference match with local rival, the University of the Sciences (USciences). The Griffins took two of three doubles matches, before dismissing the Devils by a 6-3 final thanks to four singles victories. Sophomore
Michael Humes (Medford, N.J.) was the only perfect Griffin, collecting wins at number one doubles and number one singles.

Steven Say (Cannes, France) got Chestnut Hill College (1-0) off to a good start against the USciences (0-1) with an 8-2 win at number one doubles. Their win was supported by an 8-4 win at number three doubles by sophomore
Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) and senior
Patrick Villafuerte Joson (Old Bridge, N.J.). With the Devils winning number two doubles 8-2, the Griffins carried a 2-1 advantage into individual play.
Humes reinforced the Griffin momentum at the start of singles play, taking number one singles 6-4, 6-1, over the Devil sophomore Steven Galerkin (San Francisco, Calif.). The Devils won number two singles 6-0, 6-3, but the Griffins separated for victory with wins at number three, four, and five singles. Junior

Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) claimed number four singles 6-2, 6-1, and freshman
Kevin Taylor earned his first collegiate win at number five singles, 6-2, 6-0. Number six singles went the Devils way with a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 win for senior Paul Bedway (Orwigsburg, Pa.); fortunately for the Griffins, it was not enough to sway the final.
The men's tennis team hosts Stonehill College next. The match is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. opening serve, as part of women's and men's tennis doubleheader on Friday, September 21.
