1/15/2013 10:40:00 PM

Box Score Wilmington, Del. – (1/15/2013) – After a first half of poor shooting, Chestnut Hill College threatened Goldey-Beacom College's 14-point, 29-15, advantage with a barrage of three-point baskets that left the Griffins down two points, 33-31, with 12:30 to play. Sophomore guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) led the Griffins perimeter push, but behind the play of senior forward Irene Hudson (Syracuse, N.Y.) the Lightning delayed the rally and ensured a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) season sweep with a 47-41 victory.

Goldey-Beacom College (11-8, 8-2) used a 26-15 rebounding advantage and a 20% (5-of-20) Chestnut Hill College (2-13, 0-8) shooting effort to gain a 29-15 halftime lead. The Lightning built a 15-point lead, 20-5, with 11:12 to go on the back of Hudson who totaled eight points, nine rebounds, a block, and three steals in the period. After intermission the Griffins maintained the rebounding gap (47-33) while shooting their way back into the affair. Gorczynski led an onslaught of three-point shooting (5-of-12, 41.7%) that fueled a 16-7 run and left the Griffins down two points, 33-31, with 12:30 to play. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Griffins would get with Hudson and sophomore forward Chelsea Grover (Southampton, N.J.) staving off the rally and carrying the Lightning to a six-point victory, 47-41.

Hudson's 12-point, 13-rebound double-double was complimented by an outstanding defensive effort as she added a block and five steals to her performance. Grover scored a team-high 13 points while also recording four rebounds and a steal to the Lightning effort. Senior guard Devonne Richardson (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in with six points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

Gorczynski's 13 points topped the Griffins scoring numbers with all four of her baskets (4-of-11, 36.4%) coming from beyond the arch (4-of-9, 44.4%). She also recorded three rebounds and three steals. In addition to seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal, senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) also scored nine points, which leaves her four points shy of 1,000 (996) for her career. Junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) was a factor in the first half with two points, five rebounds, two blocks, and a steals. She finished with two points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Freshman guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) offered six points, two rebounds, and three assists to the Griffin effort.

The women's basketball team returns home to host Holy Family University in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest on Wednesday, January 23.
