Box Score Wilmington, Del. – (1/15/2013) – In a contest of unprecedented scoring, Chestnut Hill College shot 63.2% (24-for-38) from field in the opening period to own an intimidating 58-38 halftime advantage in tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Goldey-Beacom College came storming back with a 61-point second half, but fortunately team efforts usually produce good results and tonight was no exception as the Griffins recorded team and game scoring highs in a 105-99 dismantling of the Lightning. Seven Griffins finished in double figures with a 12-point, ten-rebound double-double from freshman forward Noel Hightower (Easton, Pa.) and 17 points from sophomore guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J) headlining the pride.

Teamwork precipitated an outstanding first half for Chestnut Hill College (8-8, 4-3), who gained a 20-point halftime advantage, 58-38, with senior guard Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, N.J.) and Hightower pacing the effort. After the tip, basket after basket fell as Dickson's perfect shooting, 5-of-5 (100.0%), was the best compliment for the thunderous dunks of Hightower and sophomore forward Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, N.J), who earned the Griffins a 16-point lead, 27-11, with 11:25 remaining in the period. Goldey-Beacom College (5-12, 2-7) deflated the margin to ten points, 33-23, just three minutes later (8:31) but then the Griffins soon resumed their dizzying pursuit of the hoop as freshman guard Christian Walck (Lancaster, Pa.) extended the lead back to 20 points, 58-38, seven seconds before intermission (0:07). Five minutes into the second half (14:44), a three pointer by DiRugeris gave the Griffins their biggest lead of the night, 74-50 (24 points). The Lightning slowly crawled back into the game on the relentless guard play of junior A.J. Picard (Skippack, Pa.) and sophomores Marcus Porter (Wilmington, Del.) and Kyle Steinbergin (Englewood, N.J), who pulled the Lightning back within three points, 100-97, with 29 seconds (0:29) to go. A quick foul by Picard put Walck at the foul line and after two converted free throws, 102-97 (0:27), and missed Lightning three-pointer the Griffins were left to the game-clinching free throws.

Picard lead all scorers with 38 points on a 10-of-21 (47.6%) shooting effort and a productive night from the free throw line (13-of-14, 92.9%). He also recorded eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal to headline the Lightning effort. Porter added seven assists to a double-double performance of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Steinbergin scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half.

Dickson finished the game 7-of-14 (50.0%) from the floor to tie his season-high scoring performance. He hit three from long range (3-of-4, 75.0%) while also recording three rebounds and two assists. DiRugeris and Walck contributed 16 points apiece; DiRugeris also recorded five rebounds, six assists, and a steal, while Walck additionally provided two rebounds and two assists. Sophomore center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored 12 points as did Hightower who added a block and three steals to his first collegiate double-double. Saintilus and senior guard Francis Ashe (Hyattsville, Md.) also reached double digits, scoring 11 points and ten points, respectively.

The men's basketball team will continue their CACC  schedule when they host Holy Family University in an 8:00 p.m on Wednesday, January 23.
