Box Score Orangeburg, N.Y. – (1/26/2013) – Free throws proved to be the determining factor in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Dominican College, as an otherwise even affair ended in a 57-48 loss for Chestnut Hill College. After scoring the game's first three buckets, the Lady Chargers made 14-of-16 (87.5%) at the charity stripe to help them lead the whole way. Sophomore guard
Lila Jones (Lansdale, Pa.) headlined the Griffins first-half effort while senior forward
Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) contributed 14 of her game-high 18 points in the closing period.
Junior forward KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.) scored the contest's first two baskets and sparked Dominican College (12-6, 9-2) for a 15-4 opening run (13:00). In the Chestnut Hill College (2-15, 0-10) comeback, the defensive efforts of Alexander and freshman guard
Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) triggered Jones' patented fastbreak acrobatics which landed the Griffins five points shy, 16-11, of the Lady Chargers as period reached its midway point (9:46). With less than two minutes to remaining (1:49), the spread remained at five points, 26-21, only for a late Lady Charger run to put the halftime deficit at 12 points, 33-21. The Lady Charger run continued in the second half as the home team grew their lead to as many as 17 points, 38-21, on a three-pointer from senior guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, N.J.) just 41 seconds into the period (19:19). With a slight rebounding advantage, 39-31, and a far superior performance from the free throw line the Lady Chargers maintained their lead for most of the closing frame. On Alexander's spirited second-half effort the Griffins got back to within eight points, 50-42, before the two minute mark (2:26) on a three-point basket from senior guard
Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.). Unfortunately, the diminishing game clock allowed the Lady Chargers to use the comforts of the free throw line for a nine-point victory, 57-48.
Sophomore guard LaShonda Hawthorne (Queens, N.Y.) led the Lady Chargers with 17 points, eight rebounds, and a steal. She was supported by 16 points from Lopez and the two-way play of Jentzen and senior forward Bianca Harris (Teaneck, N.J.). Jentzen provided ten points, six rebounds, two assists, a block, and two steals, while Harris contributed seven points, ten rebounds, an assist, and three steals.
Alexander hit 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the floor and 1-of-3 (33.3%) from the line while also recording three rebounds, an assist, a block, and three steals for the Griffins. Jones scored eight of her ten points in the first half and Laing finished the affair with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.
