Box Score Nyack, N.Y. – (1/5/2013) – Every Griffin pitched in to help Chestnut Hill College keep pace early on in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition at Nyack College. The Warriors allowed their initial lead to slide, and afforded the Griffins a 29-28 halftime advantage, before giving way to the hot hand of
Mark DiRugeris Jr. (Woodbury, N.J.). The Griffins senior guard went for a season-high 33 points, splitting six three-pointers between the two periods and fueling an offense anchored in the complimentary hustle and defense of his supporting cast.
In the opening half, sophomore guard Khalid Samuels (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) was the playmaker for Nyack College (2-11, 0-6). After setting up a few teammates he hit a exclamatory three-pointer that put the Warriors up ten, 12-2, six minutes into the contest (13:58). Sophomore forward
Alssene Saintilus (Irvington, N.J.) and sophomore guard
Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) led the Chestnut Hill College (7-7, 3-2) awakening that brought the contest even, 12-12, just three minutes later (10:59). DiRugeris began to find his touch at the end of the first half and in the second period he hit full stride, piloting a six-minute span that blew apart a 34-34 tie at 17:00 and afforded the Griffins a 48-34 advantage with 11:06 to go. Behind Samuels and the reserve play of freshman forward Will Robinson (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) the Warriors twice brought the Griffin lead to nine, first at 6:39, 50-41, and again at 5:16, 52-43. However, DiRugeris and a pride of Griffins, headlined by senior guard
Francis Ashe (Hyattsville, Md.) and sophomore center
Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.), reinforced the defensive efforts and reestablished the lead at 14 points twice, first at 4:43 , 57-43, and again at 3:18, 59-45, before the contest finished on a 66-52 final.
Samuels' number topped the Warriors half of the box score, as he totaled 14 points, three rebounds, eight assists, and a steal. Saintilus finished with 12 points in addition to his stellar defensive contribution of three blocks and a steal. Radtke matched Saintilus' defensive effort while also recording eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Ashe ended the afternoon with five points, eight rebounds, eight assists, a block, and a steal.
