Filip Sekulic (Danilovgrad, Montenegro) ignited the Griffins on a run that would fall eight points shy of Wagner University, 75-67, who saw their 19-point halftime lead, 43-22, shrink to as few as eight, six times in the final 5:16. Sekulic's first double-double of the season, 23 points and ten rebounds, lead three Griffins in double figures.
In less than two minutes, 10:08-8:15, Chestnut Hill College's (1-1) cut the Wagner College (1-1) second-half lead from 17 points, 57-40, to ten points, 59-49, as Sekulic grabbed a series of offensive rebounds, scored a layup, and converted a pair of free throws to begin the Griffins final assault on the Seahawks enduring lead. Billy Cassidy (Primos, Pa.) was followed by some low post play from junior center
Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.), who kept the margin at 11 points, 65-54, with 6:26 remaining on the game clock. As play approached the five-minute mark the Griffins whittled the Seahawk lead to single digits, 67-59 (5:16), for the first time since the first half. Sekulic reemerged as the Griffins go to scorer, accounting for eight of their final 11 points, but leaving them at the same eight-point deficit five minutes later.
Senior guard Latif Rivers (Elizabeth, N.J.) led the Seahawks with 22 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal. He was supported by a pair of 12-point performances from senior guard Kenneth Ortiz (Newark, N.J.) and junior guard Marcus Burton (Charlotte, N.C.), and strong performance from senior center Naofall Folahan (Cotonou, Benin); eight points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks.
After a poor first-half shooting effort, Sekulic turned it on in the closing period with 17 points on a 6-of-13 (.462) second-half shooting performance.
