11/27/2013 1:40:00 AM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (11/26/2013) - Junior guard Olivia Gorczynski  (Parlin, N.J.) was 6-of-10 (.600) from long range and posted a game high 27 points, but her effort was not enough to lead Chestnut Hill College past Wilmington University in tonight's 78-68 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. Sophomore guard Tenicia Spence (Baltimore, M.D.) led the Wildcats with 26 points.

In the opening act, Chestnut Hill College (0-4, 0-1) found themselves chasing Wilmington University (1-3, 1-0) to a 37-34 halftime spread. A strong first-half presence from Gorczynski and senior forward Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) allowed the Griffins to tie the contest on nine separate occasions, but a 27-27 stalemate with 4:40 left to play turned into a 37-34 halftime deficit with junior guard Taylor Carter (Edgewood, M.D.) directing the Wildcats to the intermission advantage. The Wildcats extended their lead in the second half as the Griffins gradually found their way back. A free throw by freshman guard Erica McIntosh (Waldorf, M.D.) tied the contest for the last time at 60-60, just before the five-minute mark (5:28). However, the Wildcats would use an 18-8 run to conclude the contest on a 78-68 final.

Spence scored 20 of her team-high 26 points in the opening half. She was 9-of-19 (.474) from the field and 7-of-10 (.700) from charity stripe to lead the Wildcats. Carter and freshman guard Jasmine Lee (Chestertown, M.D.) both contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively, while junior forward Tashea Plummer (Landover Hills, M.D.) hauled down 12 rebounds.

In support of Gorczynski's career-high scoring performance, Farrow recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and ten rebounds. Junior guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) also had a solid performance with eight points, eight rebounds, five assists, and a steal.

The women's basketball team will take a break from their CACC schedule to visit Lock Haven University for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Monday, December 2.
