Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/12/2013) – After controlling an early advantage, Chestnut Hill College looked to keep pace with the University of the Sciences (USciences) for the remainder of tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) affair as sophomore forward Brianne Traub (Wayne, N.J.) and senior center Becca Ruggear (Collingdale, Pa.) each contributed double-doubles in an eventual 75-60 Devil victory. Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) finished as the Griffins high scorer, hitting 3-of-7 (42.9%) from three-point range in a 15-point performance.
Chestnut Hill College (4-16, 2-11) grabbed the initial advantage in the contest with a balanced effort as they owned a 9-4 lead with 15:47 remaining in the first half. The Griffin lead quickly dissolved with Traub and sophomore guard Jessica Sylvester (Trevose, Pa.) pushing USciences (11-11, 9-6) to a five-point lead, 18-13, only minutes later (12:05). Again the Griffins united to even the competition at 20-20 just past the minute mark (9:34), but a responsorial 9-0 Devil run gave the home team the momentum heading to halftime. They would extend their advantage to 11 points, 40-29, on a Sylvester three-pointer just before the final minute of first-half play (1:03), only for Alexander to trim the deficit to nine points by the break, 40-31. The Devils inched their lead to 12 points, 46-34, early in the second half (17:50) and it remained there, 55-43, at 11:04 before Alexander and Gorczynski led one last Griffins rally. The Griffins closed the spread to six points, 55-49, midway through the final frame (9:45), but the in the end the efforts of Traub and Ruggear fueled a 43-33 Devil rebounding advantage and an eventual 15-point victory, 75-60.
Traub and Ruggear combined for 47 points and 24 rebounds, but it was Traub's 27-points, ten rebounds, three assists, block, and two steals that anchored the Devils performance. Ruggear was a quality compliment with 20 points and 14 rebounds in her double-double effort. Sylvester finished the affair with 14 points while senior guard Elsebeth Birman (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in with ten points, six assists, and three steals.

Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led the Griffins balanced first-half effort with eight points. She finished as the Griffins secondary threat with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman guard
Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a key contributor as well, totaling nine points, two rebounds, four assists, a block, and three steals.
The women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, February 16, for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Felician College.
