Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/19/2013) – On the coattails of winning their last three home contests, Chestnut Hill College continued to frustrate recent opponents tonight at #6 Holy Family University. The Griffins took the class of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) to the wire, but despite the heroic efforts of sophomore guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) and senior forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) the late rebounding of senior center Erin Mann (West Chester, Pa.) allowed the Tigers to escape the Griffins grasp for a 61-55 win.

After a strong first half performance, 12-of-29 (41.4%) from the field, Chestnut Hill College (5-18, 3-13) eventually took the lead from Holy Family University (23-2, 17-1) at the 11-minute mark (11:00) of the second half, 44-43. Gorczynski first-half shooting, 12 points on 4-of-7 (57.1%) and a stingy team defense, Tigers 31.6% (12-of-38) from the floor, kept the Griffins within at intermission, 31-30. Following the break, a relentless Griffins effort was led by Alexander, who captured the advantage and extended the lead to three points, 46-43, with 10:31 to play. Unfortunately, when the Griffins did begin missing it was Mann who cleaned up the glass. She grabbed 11 second-half rebounds to keep the Tigers at the free throw line and one step ahead down the stretch to a 61-55 final.

Despite shooting 5-of-15 (33.3%) from the field, Mann hit 8-of-8 (100.0%) from the free throw line in her 18-point, 13-rebound double-double. She also recorded three assists, four blocks, and three steals as the Tigers top performer. Fellow seniors, forward Kelly Brady (Ocean City, N.J.) and guard Ana Cruz (Lititz, Pa.) also offered key contributions. Brady recorded 12 points and ten rebounds, while Cruz finished with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Gorczynski scored 12 of her 15 points in the first half and finished as the Griffins leading scorer while also recording four rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. Alexander put 12 of her 14 points on the scoreboard in the second half. She also offered six rebounds, an assist, two blocks, and a steal to the Griffin effort. Senior guard Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) was the third Griffin in double figures with 11 points in addition to four rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Junior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.) led the Griffins rebounding effort with eight caroms. She also totaled four points, an assist and two blocks.

The women's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Thursday, February 21, when they host Nyack College in a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
