Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/23/2013) – Despite narrowly outshooting the University of the Sciences (USciences) 43.2% (19-of-44) – 41.5 (27-of-65) in this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, Chestnut Hill College fell victim to a 40-28 rebounding deficit and a 19-28 turnover differential in a 71-51 final. Latoya Laing (Snellville, Ga.) led the Griffins and highlighted Senior Day with 18 points.
Chestnut Hill College (6-19, 4-14) tit for tat with the USciences (15-11, 13-6) as sophomore guard
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) fueled the Griffin offense that left the home team up one point, 19-18, at the nine-minute mark (9:05). Unfortunately, a stingy Devil defense eventually frustrated the Griffins, who turned the ball over eight times in a 20-4 slide that left the home team down 38-23 heading to the break. After intermission, the Devils continued to control the contest as they gradually grew the deficit to as many as 28 points, 66-38 (4:09), before securing a 71-51 victory.
Sophomore forward Brianne Traub (Wayne, N.J.) connected on 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the floor, including 3-of-4 (75.0%) from the three point territory, and 2-of-3 (66.7%) from the free throw line in her game-high 23-point performance. She additionally contributed eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block to lead the Devils effort. Sophomore guard Jessica Sylvester (Trevose, Pa.) also shined for the Devils with 17 points, four assists, and three steals. Senior center Becca Ruggear (Collingdale, Pa.) contributed a double-double, ten points and ten rebounds, in addition to three assists, two steals, and a block.
Laing added five rebounds and an assist in her team-leading scoring effort. Gorczynski, junior center
Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.), and sophomore guard
Lila Jones (Lansdale, Pa.) all recorded with eight points apiece. All of Gorczynski's points, as well as her two blocks and a steal came in the first half, while Bouie's and Jones' points accounted for 16 of the Griffins 18 bench points. Bouie additionally grabbed five rebounds and Jones helped the defense with a block and two steals.
