Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/26/2013) – After trailing Philadelphia University by one point, 37-36, at halftime of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest, Chestnut Hill College was devastated by a poor second half of shooting that facilitated a 20-point Lady Ram victory, 73-53. Sophomore guard
Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) scored all of her a team-high 16 points in the first half, while sophomore forward
Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) nearly recorded her entire double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds, in the Griffins first period of play.
Philadelphia University (14-12, 10-9) took the initial lead of the first half, 10-6 at 15:56, but the hustle of Farrow and two Gorczynski free throws allowed Chestnut Hill College (6-20, 4-15) to tie the game at 10-10 tie by 14:25 of the opening frame. It was the collective efforts of Farrow, Gorczynski, and senior forward
Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) that built the Griffins a seven-point lead, 34-27, before the half's five-minute mark (5:37). Unfortunately, senior forward Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa.) led a late Lady Ram run that rallied the home team for a 10-2 closing run, 37-36. After intermission, Blye's effort was reinforced by the play of freshman forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa.), senior forward Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa.), and sophomore guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa.). The Lady Rams forced the Griffins into ten turnovers and a 25.0% (8-of-31) second-half shooting effort that inflated the one-point halftime lead into a 17-point spread, 61-44, midway through the frame. The deficit reached 20 points, 71-51, in the final minutes (1:48) and the gap remained at that distance for the final horn, 73-53.
Blye's 22-point, 11-rebound double-double was the underlying feature for the Lady Rams. She also captained their defensive effort with two blocks and two steals. Jacobs finished with 21 points and five assists while Peltzer contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals two the win.
Farrow's second career double-double and Gorczynski's outside touch, 4-of-10 (40.0%) from three-point range, led the Griffins. Alexander made up for a poor shooting night, 1-of-9 (11.1%) from the floor, by hustling for a team-high 14 rebounds and distributing four assists in the Griffin effort.
The women's basketball team finished the 2012-2013 season at 6-20 overall and 4-15 in CACC play.
