Box Score 2 Millersville, Pa. – (3/13/2013) – Pitching served Millersville University well in today's softball doubleheader as sophomore Sarah Bertoni (Nanticoke, Pa.) and freshman Brianna Andraos (Malvern, Pa.) held Chestnut Hill College scoreless in wins of 1-0 and 8-0. Freshman pitcher
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) challenged Bertoni in the opener as the two hurlers allowed only 11 base runners over seven innings. In game two, the Marauders offense plated at least a run in each inning while Andraos held the Griffins to two hits.
Andraos was nearly untouchable in game two. The Millersville University (5-1) pitcher struck out seven while allowing junior left fielder
Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) to single in the third inning and senior pitcher
Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.) to single in the fifth, but that was all Chestnut Hill College (3-5) could do against Andraos. Meanwhile, the Marauders offense gradually grew an 8-0 advantage, scoring in each frame on ten hits and four Griffin errors. Sophomore second baseman Danielle DiFillippo (Hatboro, Pa.) recorded two hits, sophomore designated player Cara Nance (Island Lake, Ill.) went 3-for-3 in the heart of the Marauders lineup, and sophomore first baseman Ashley Cantiello (Bristol, Pa.) knocked in two runs with a third inning grounder and a fifth inning single.
In the opener, Dayter matched Bertoni pitch for pitch until the sixth inning. The Griffins had a chance in the second inning with freshman third baseman
Francesca Faillace (Philadelphia, Pa.) leading off with a single and freshman first baseman
Allie Williams (Warrenton, Pa.) doubling an out later. Unfortunately, the Griffins could not move the runners around as a pair of fielder's choices brought the frame to a close. In the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore catcher Gabbie Berry (Norristown, Pa.) led off with a beam ball. The Marauders sacrificed her to second and DiFillippo doubled her in to provide the necessary run for Bertoni to seal the victory, 1-0.
The softball team returns home to host Concordia College (NY) in their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The opener is schedule for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.
