3/16/2013 4:25:00 PM

Box Score Rockville Centre, N.Y. – (3/16/2013) – A late first-half run was the difference maker in this afternoon's women's lacrosse contest as Molloy College broke away from a 7-5 advantage to defeat Chestnut Hill College 18-11. Senior attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, N.Y.) and junior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.) led the Griffins early competitive play, but even a strong second-half from senior midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, N.J.) was not enough to keep up after the Lions found comfort on their home field.

Molloy College (3-4) took only 27 seconds to score the contest's first goal, 1-0 (29:330) but after a second Lion tally at 27:50, 2-0, Chestnut Hill College (0-4) showed they were not going down without a fight. Senior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, Pa.) found Campbell to put the Griffins on the scoreboard at 27:27, 2-1, and 15 minutes later the Lion lead had only grown by a goal, 7-5 (12:49). The game changed with the Lions late first-half push, fronted by a pair of senior attackers in Kaitlynn Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Alexa Toscano (Bethpage, N.Y.) that put the Griffins behind 11-5 margin at the break.

The Lions momentum carried them to a 16-6 advantage halfway through the second half (14:13). It was Timony who spirited a late Griffin surge that outscored the Lions 5-2 the rest of the way. After scoring the closing frame's first goal at 29:07, 11-6, Timony resurfaced after Campbell stopped the Lions second-half run at 12:36, 16-7. She cut the margin to 16-8 with an unassisted score at 10:43, but with time running out even two more Timony goals and a free position strike from freshman midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) were not enough to catch the Lions, 18-11.

Kelly led the Lions with three goals, two assists, five draw controls, and a ground ball. Toscano and junior midfielder Candice Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.) supported Kelly; Toscano with three goals, an assist, a draw control, and a ground ball and Noakes (Levittown, N.Y.) with two goals, three assists, and one draw in a strong first-half performance. In goal, freshman Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) earned the win (3-3) with eight saves in the opening 39:46.

Timony finished with four goals, two ground balls, and seven draws to headline the Griffin effort. Squillante and Campbell scored three times apiece while Keimig hustled to three draw on addition to her second-half tally. Senior midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) led the defense with seven ground balls, a draw, and four caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Delahanty (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman goalkeeper Danielle Owen (Glenolden, pa.) each saw a half in goal. Delahanty made seven first-half saves in the loss (0-4), while Owen saved three shots in closing frame.
