Griffins Topple Two CACC Rivals in Twin Bill

Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/23/2013) – Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule today with a pair of wins, as the Griffins took to the courts in the morning for a 9-0 victory over Post University, before earning a 9-0 afternoon win over Caldwell College. Following their league wins, the Griffins bring their momentum on the road to play the #47 University of the District of Columbia (UDC) tomorrow, Sunday, March 24.
 
Chestnut Hill College (10-3, 2-0) opened their CACC twin bill with a sweep of doubles play against Post University (2-6, 0-1). Freshman Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) and sophomore Sammy Atri (Mexico City, Mexico) led off the match with an 8-0 win at number three doubles. Sophomore Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) followed with an 8-4 win at number two doubles, while sophomore Steven Say (Cannes, France) and Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) completed the round with an 8-6 win at number one doubles. The Griffins took all six singles matches with relative ease as the Eagles gave their best showing in the fourth individual flight, where Ceniceros endured for a 6-0, 4-6, 10-8, victory.
 
Caldwell College (1-1, 1-1) gave the Griffins even less resistance in the second match. Say and Pham's 8-0 win at number one doubles was matched by an 8-0 win at number three doubles by Taylor and Atri. Humes and Ceniceros completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at number two doubles. Singles was a sweep as well for the Griffins. Humes won number one singles 6-2, 6-0, Pham took number two singles 6-0, 6-0, Say secured a point with a 6-2, 6-0, win at number three singles, Atri followed with a 6-1, 6-0, win at number four singles, while the final two individual flights were won 6-1, 6-1, by junior Jeramy Solema (Briarwood, N.Y.) and sophomore Simthembile Heeren (Lansdowne, Pa.), respectively.
 
The Griffins tennis team will travel to Washington, D.C., tomorrow, for an 11:00 a.m. dual match with the Firebirds of the UDC.
