Women’s Lacrosse Wins Second In a Row, Rocks Wildcats

Box Score  Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (3/26/2013) – Chestnut Hill College made it two in a row with today's 18-8 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Wilmington University. The Griffins turned a slow start into a 9-4 halftime advantage behind seniors, midfielder Brianne Timony (Allentown, N.J.) and attack Christina Squillante (Kings Park, N.Y.), and then extended their lead to a 12-goal margin, 18-6, before the Wildcats final two strikes.
 
Sophomore midfielder Rebekah McCurry (St. Leonard, Md.) scored just before the 25-minute mark (25:02) of the first half to give Wilmington University (0-9, 0-3) an early 2-1 advantage. Chestnut Hill College (2-5, 2-2) did not take long to respond as Squillante deposited a pass from Timony in goal at 22:29 and then located senior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, Pa.) at 17:49 to the give the Griffins a 3-2 lead a force a Wildcat timeout. After the huddle, the Griffins continued to control play, outscoring the Wildcats 6-2 through the remainder of the period, 9-4.
 
Following intermission and an initial Wildcat strike at 26:18, 9-5, the second half was all Griffins. The home team grew their advantage to 14-5 with 17:15 still to play and the deficit reached ten goals at 12:07 on an unassisted Eaby goal. Unassisted goals from junior attack Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, Pa.) and Timony followed and gave the Griffins their largest lead, 18-6, with 4:55 left on the game clock, but two late Wildcat scores (3:42 and 2:25) trimmed the final margin to ten goals, 18-8.
 
Senior midfielder Jaclyn Hall (Abingdon, Md.) led the Wildcat effort with three goals and two draw controls. She was supported by two-goal games from McCurry and sophomore midfielder Megan Keffer (Wilmington, Del.). Each also recorded a ground ball and four draw controls, Keffer additionally caused two turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hall (Abingdon, Md.) made six saves and recovered three ground balls in the loss (0-9).
 
Timony's five goals and an assist headlined the Griffins offensive production, but she had plenty of help from her supporting crew. Campbell finished with four goals, a ground ball, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Squillante totaled three goals and an assist. Additional contributions came from senior midfielder Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) who recorded three goals, three ground balls, a draw, and a caused turnover. Eaby added a groundball and two draws to her two goals. Freshman attack Emily Cooper (Moorestown, N.J.) also recorded a goal, her free position conversion served as the first tally of her collegiate career. Senior Jennifer Delahanty (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win (2-5) with four saves, a ground ball, and a caused turnover.  
 
The women's lacrosse team breaks from their CACC schedule to host East Stroudsburg University in a 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28.
