Tigers Take Two, Rush Keeps Griffins In Nightcap

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/28/2013) – Holy Family University pitching silenced a hot Chestnut Hill College offense to sweep this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with wins of 7-1 and 2-0. Freshmen, catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.), first baseman Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.), and shortstop Elisabeth Raub (Palmerton, Pa.) each recorded two hits for the Griffins. In the game two pitcher's duel, senior pitcher Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.) provided the Griffins with seven innings of quality work.
 
Holy Family University (7-9, 3-1) clubbed their way to victory in the opener with junior shortstop Samantha Borelli (West Berlin, N.J.) providing the thump in the middle of their lineup. She led off the fourth inning with a single to left field and became the Tigers first run, 1-0, before homering in two of her teammates in the fifth frame, 3-0. Chestnut Hill College (6-10, 3-3) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame on a two-out Raub single that plated freshman third baseman Francesca Faillace (Philadelphia, Pa.), 3-1. Unfortunately, the Tigers diminished the uprising with three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning, 6-1. They would add one more run with back-to back hits in the seventh inning, 7-1 to cement the victory for junior pitcher Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa.) (2-2).
 
Game two saw junior pitcher Victoria Reuscher (Cheltenham, Pa.) and Rush battle till the very end. The Tigers got to Rush first, scoring in the second inning on a solo shot by junior first baseman Erin Corrado (Fair Hill, Md.) and adding a second run on a Borelli solo homer in the sixth inning, 2-0. Reuscher (4-2) would hold the Griffins scoreless, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out four in the shutout. Despite earning the loss, Rush (2-5) allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out one
 
The softball team continues their CACC schedule at home on Saturday, March 30, with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against Felician College.
