3/30/2013 7:42:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/30/2013) – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) softball season continued for Chestnut Hill College with today's doubleheader against Felician College. The Golden Falcons slugged their way to victory in both ends of the twin bill, first defeating the Griffins 8-0 in six innings and then completing the sweep with a 15-2 victory in game two. Freshman catcher Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) had one of the Griffins four hits in the opener and she also had two of the Griffins four hits game two.

Felician College (8-15, 4-5) took advantage of the sleepy Chestnut Hill College (6-12, 3-5) bats, scoring in the second inning with a lead-off walk and a two-out error, 1-0, before adding another run in the fourth inning off another Griffin misplay, 2-0. Senior pitcher Kristen Tenwolde (Ramona, Calif.) kept the Griffins quiet and off the bases through four innings. It was senior left fielder Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) who broke up the no-hit bid in the fifth inning, but the Griffins could not make anything of it. The Golden Falcons made it 8-0 with a two-run sixth inning, 4-0, and a four-run sixth. The Griffins looked to extend the contest to at least a seventh frame, but even with a two-out walk, and two two-out singles, the Golden Falcons claimed victory an inning early.

The Golden Falcons carried their momentum into game two, scoring two runs on five first-inning hits, 2-0. The Griffins responded with some hustle from senior pinch runner Veronica Wilenta (Brick, N.J.) who crossed plate on a misplay by the Golden Falcon right fielder, 2-1; Kehr providing the contact. Unfortunately, the Golden Falcons bats continued to thump, knocking in four runs in the third inning, 6-1, two runs in the fourth inning, 8-1, and one more in the top of the fifth inning, 9-1. The Griffins avoided anther run-shortened game on a two-out Kehr single that brought home freshman shortstop Elisabeth Raub (Palmerton, Pa.), 9-2, but after a scoreless sixth inning the Golden Falcons put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning, 15-2.

The softball team welcomes Georgian Court University to campus on Monday, April 1, for their next CACC doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
