Griffins Suffer CACC Setback At Georgian Court University

Box Score Lakewood, N.J. – (4/13/2013) – After a landslide of a first half, 12-0, Chestnut Hill College managed to slow Georgian Court University to a 17-2 victory in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest. Seniors, attack Megan Shaughnessy (Mullica Hill, Pa.) and defender Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) deposited the Griffins two goals in the second half.
 
Senior midfielder Corinne Coyle (Brick, N.J.) helped Georgian Court University (5-5-1, 5-2) ignite their first-half scoring frenzy. First locating freshman attack Melissa Williams (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) at 25:56, 1-0, before providing three more helpers and four goals of her own in the Lions 12-0 first-half run. Shaughnessey scored the first goal of the second half at 26:59, 12-1, looking to inspire Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 2-6) for a rally. Unfortunately, her effort was not enough to sway the momentum as the Lions outscored the Griffins 5-1 the rest of the way.
 
Coyle totaled nine points for the Lions, recording six goals and three assists in addition to four ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover. Senior attack Olivia Rotunno (Jackson, N.J.) offered three goals, three ground balls, three draws, and two caused turnovers while Williams finished the affair with two goals and a caused turnover. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Cathcart (Wilmington, Del.) made six saves in the opening 39:23 for the victory (5-5-1).
 
Alexander provided the Griffins a ground ball and four draws in addition to her second-half score. Senior midfielder Erica Eaby (Lancaster, Pa.) offered Alexander and Shaughnessy some help with three ground balls, three draws, and a caused turnover. In goal, freshman Danielle Owen (Glenolden, Pa.) and senior Jennifer Delahanty (Staten Island, N.Y.) split time. Owen made six saves and earned the loss (0-3) in the opening 31:01.
 
The women's lacrosse team plays their next CACC contest at Holy Family University on Wednesday, April 17. Opening draw is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m.
