Box Score 2 Bloomfield, N.J. – (4/13/2013) – Four hits a game was all Chestnut Hill College could muster in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Bloomfield College as the Deacons kept the Griffins off the scoreboard in wins of 10-0, in five innings, and 4-0. Freshmen, center fielder
Nicole Carney (Ontario, Calif.), second baseman
Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.), and right fielder
Courtney Dayter (Cohoes, N.Y.) each recorded two hits in the twin bill.
An eight-run first inning set the tone for Bloomfield College (12-15, 4-10), who kept the Chestnut Hill College (8-20, 5-13) bats silent behind the pitching of senior Aly Schraer (Paramus, N.J.). Two Deacon runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and Schraer's mound effort ensured the early ending, 10-0. She did not allow a Griffin on the bases until their final at-bats, when they connected for four singles but failed to score a run.
The Deacons scored a run in the first inning of game two, 1-0, another in the second, 2-0, and two in the fourth, 4-0, while senior pitcher Alexandria Smith (Killeen, Texas) found similar success to Schraer. She walked freshman shortstop
Elisabeth Raub (Palmerton, Pa.) in the first inning, allowed two hits to Carney, one to Heaton, and one to Dayter, but even her sixth-inning single could not break the shutout with freshman catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) making the final out of the frame at home plate.
The softball team travels next to Wilmington University for a 3:00 p.m. CACC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16.
