Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) and, the resilient; sophomore
Steven Say (Cannes, France), Chestnut Hill College challenged Concordia College (NY) to a 5-0 defeat in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship match. Moore and Say were credited with CACC All-Tournament selections after headlining the Griffins 5-0 semifinal victory over #3 Philadelphia University yesterday, Saturday, April 20, and giving the Clippers the most resistance in the championship battle.
In their first CACC Championship appearance, Chestnut Hill College (16-8) fought valiantly against the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II's #10 team in Concordia College (NY) (17-2). The Clippers made their first point of the afternoon at number three doubles where seniors David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) defeated sophomore
Michael Humes (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) 8-1. Sophomores Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) topped Moore and partner, freshman
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.), by the same score at number two doubles, 8-1. Say and junior
Yoann Pham (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) saw the most success for the Griffins, but could not overcome seniors Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) at number one doubles, 8-4.
Singles only lasted for the first two finishers, who came at number one and number two. Humes lost to Boldarev 6-0, 6-0, at number one singles, while Piludu soon followed over Pham at number two singles, 6-0, 6-1. The remainder of the individual matches went unfinished, leaving the Clippers to their fourth straight CACC Championship.
Joining Moore and Say on the CACC All-Tournament roster were four Clippers; the CACC Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) Piludu, Boldarev, Lindell, and Majauskas.
The men's tennis team awaits their selection to the East Regional of the upcoming NCAA DII Championship Tournament. The bracket will be revealed in the 8:30 p.m. selection show on NCAA.com on Tuesday, April 2.
