Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. – (4/20/2013) – Going deep at the beginning and end of today's second game, Chestnut Hill College earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) split with a 3-2 win. Post University used a sixth-inning grand slam to separate for an 8-2 win in the opener of the Senior Day doubleheader, but both junior left fielder Sarah Mattaliano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman third baseman Emily Soller (Bel Air, Md.) homered to bring the Griffins victory in game two.

The opening contest was competitive until Post University (15-27, 8-17) pulled away with a sixth-inning grand slam from junior third baseman Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Some early Chestnut Hill College (8-22, 5-15) errors afforded the Eagles an early 3-0 lead, but with a second-inning, lead-off single from freshman second baseman Julie Heaton (Berlin, N.J.) and the following two-run homerun from freshman first baseman Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.) the margin was cut to one, 3-2. The Eagles got one run back in the top of the third inning as two doubles cycled a runner around the bags, 4-2. In the sixth inning, another Griffin error and two singles loaded the bases for Sclafani, who put the game out of reach with a base-clearing drive to deep left field, 8-2.

For the Griffins, game two began and ended with fireworks as Mattaliano took the first pitch of the contest over the left field fence and Soller smashed her game-winning shot with one-out in the sixth inning. In between, the teams each recorded a run in the fourth inning, 2-1, before the Eagles knotted the contest with a sixth-inning Griffin error, 2-2. Thankfully, Soller came through in the bottom of the frame, securing senior pitcher Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.) her third win of the season (3-11). Rush recorded two hits while allowing no earned runs over seven innings of work. Soller was 3-for-3 with two runs-batted-in (RBI)

Prior to this afternoon's doubleheader, the Chestnut Hull College Department of Athletics and Recreation honored the members of the Class of 2013; Rush, utility Veronica Wilenta (Brick, N.J.), and pitcher Cassie Benson (Rosamond, Calif.) in an annual Senior Day ceremony.

The softball team plays their next CACC doubleheader, tomorrow, April 21, at Goldey-Beacom College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
