First Half Run Holds Golden Bears over Griffins

Box Score Kutztown, Pa. – (4/25/2013) – A late first-half run served as the difference in today's contest at Kutztown University, as the Golden Bears used a 6-2 halftime advantage to defeat Chestnut Hill College 11-6 in their final game of the 2013 season. Seniors, attack Brianne Timony (Allentown, N.J.) and defender Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) scored two goals apiece and led the Griffin effort with contributions on both sides of the ball.
 
Kutztown University (3-13) made their push midway through the opening period with freshman midfielder Brielle Dickey (Sewell, N.J.) scoring unassisted goals at 23:32, 2-1, and 14:30, 3-1, before ending the half with her third tally of the affair, 6-2. An unassisted strike from freshman midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.), at 8:27, was the only interruption by Chestnut Hill College (4-13), 6-2, whose only other goal in the frame came from Timony at 24:12.
 
The Griffins started the second half strong with Alexander and Timony scoring at 27:52 and 23:03, respectively, to cut the deficit to two goals, 6-4. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Griffins would come as five straight Golden Bear goals put the home team up 11-4 with only 2:56 remaining on the game clock. Alexander and Timony both struck in those final three minutes, at 2:12 and 1:24 respectively, but it would not be enough catch the Golden Bears before time expired, 11-6.
 
Dickey's six-point performance of four goals and two assists was the leading effort from the Golden Bears. She also recorded two ground balls and caused two turnovers. The Golden Bears received five points, three goals and two assists, from junior attack Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., N.J.), who additionally recorded a ground ball, a draw, and a caused turnover. In goal, junior JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, N.J.) earned her win (3-13) with 19 saves and a ground ball.
 
Timony added an assist to her two tallies while also providing three ground balls, two draws, and a caused turnover. Alexander offered two ground balls, four draws, and two caused turnovers in addition to her two scores. Keimig paired five ground balls and three draw controls with her first-half score. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Owen (Glenolden, Pa.) totaled five saves and recovered a ground ball in the loss (2-5)
 
The women's lacrosse team finishes 2013 at 4-13 overall and 3-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
