Box Score 2 Caldwell, N.J. – (4/6/2013) – Chestnut Hill College threatened to leave Caldwell College with a split of this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader as the Griffins four-run fifth inning in game two put left the deficit at 6-4 heading to the later frames. Unfortunately, the Cougars would be the ones to score twice more, earning the CACC sweep with an 8-4 victory in game two. They home team won the opener in five innings, 10-0.
Caldwell College (22-4, 11-0) was comfortable on their home diamond, scoring one run in the first inning, 1-0, and three runs in each of their next three at-bats, 10-0. Meanwhile, sophomore pitcher Hanna Wilkinshaw (Aptos, Calif.) kept the Chestnut Hill College (7-15, 4-8) bats quiet, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out seven in the first four frames. Junior pitcher Lindsay Truan (San Jose, Calif.) finished the game for the Cougars after only surrendering a lead-off double to freshman first baseman
Allie Williams (Warrenton, Va.).
The Cougars continued to hit at the start of game two. They plated five runs in the first inning, 5-0, and one in the second inning to control an early 6-0 lead. The Griffin fifth inning began with some luck as freshman shortstop
Elisabeth Raub (Palmerton, Pa.) reached on a dropped fly ball by the Cougar left fielder. A single from senior pitcher
Mandi Rush (Royersford, Pa.) followed and after a fielder's choice, a single up the middle from senior right fielder
Veronica Wilenta (Brick, N.J.) put the Griffins on the scoreboard, 6-1. Following a line-out, the Griffins scored another run on a second Cougar error, 6-2, before freshman catcher
Megan Kehr (Exton, Pa.) platted two more with a two-out single to center field, 6-4. The Cougars managed to escape the inning without any more damage thanks for a fly out to left field. They added two runs for insurance in the sixth inning, 8-4, and closed the Griffins out with a scoreless seventh inning.
The softball team continues their CACC schedule at home on Monday, April 8, with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Concordia College (NY).
