Dominican College (3-5, 3-2) was first on the scoreboard this afternoon, scoring the first two goals of the contest at 22:11, 1-0 by sophomore attack Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.), and 16:28, 2-0 by junior attack Brianna Blank (Point Pleasant, N.J.), respectively. Freshman midfielder
Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) and Timony made sure Chestnut Hill College (2-8, 2-4) was not out of it for long, as they recorded their first goals at 14:38, 2-1, and 12:33, 2-2, respectively. Unfortunately, the Lady Chargers came free from the stalemate with a 5-2 halftime edge with sophomore midfielder Gina Sparaco (Freeport, N.Y.) scoring at 9:32, 3-2, and 0:46, 4-2, before Blank added one more tally with 0:01 on the first-half clock, 5-2.
The three-goal edge came in handy for the Lady Chargers as the visitors, who endured an early second-half Griffin rally, controlled their largest lead, 13-6, with 10:38 left in the contest. Smithwick kept the Lady Chargers in the lead, answering Timony's goal at 26:26, 5-3, with one of her own at 25:46, 6-3, and doing the same to Keimig's tally at 24:11, 6-4, with her third goal of the game coming at 21:41, 7-4. From there, freshman midfielder Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) was the star for the Lady Chargers, scoring twice and providing two assists in the visitors' 7-5 closing run, 14-9.
Smithwick led the Lady Chargers with four goals, a ground ball and three draw controls. Brennan was one of four Lady Chargers to finish with two goals, she also provided three ground balls, three draw controls, and a caused turnover. In goal, freshman Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) earned the win (3-5) with seven saves and two ground balls.
Timony's four goals topped the Griffin half of the box score, she also recorded an assist to total five points in the contest. Keimig finished with three goals, recovered three ground balls, and a draw control while the remaining Griffin goals came from Alexander and Eaby. Freshman goalkeeper
Danielle Owen (Glenolden, Pa.) made her first start of the season. She took the loss (0-1) but made eight saves and recovered a ground ball in the loss.
The women's lacrosse team takes their CACC schedule on the road as they play next on Tuesday, April 9, in a 3:00 p.m. contest at Wilmington University.
