9/10/2013 9:27:00 PM

Box Score Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/10/2013) – As time ticked off the game clock at Victory Field #1, the intensity picked up on the turf with Chestnut Hill College and Bloomsburg University battling through a full extra frame before junior midfielder Julia Rios (Millersville, Pa.) scored her second goal of the affair as the game-winner at 107:50 of the second overtime period. Senior forward Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) registered the Griffins goal as the first of the contest, finding goal off a pass from her classmate, midfielder Marykate McShane (Lebanon, Pa.).

After a scoreless first half, the tempo quickly picked up in the second with DiGiovanni striking at 55:27 and Bloomsburg University (2-1) immediately retaliating less than four minutes later, 1-1 (59:14). As the Huskies tied the affair and stole the Chestnut Hill College (0-3) momentum, the Griffins were force to rally their defensive efforts against an onslaught of Husky shots. Several attempts, many captained by Rios, were denied by or driven wide of junior goalkeeper Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.), who along with the play of senior defender Brittany Boles (Broomall, Pa.) and sophomore defender Christina Mangeri (Muttontown, N.Y.) helped extend play to overtime. The first overtime went by without a change in score and it was back-and-forth in the second overtime before senior forward Tara Huber (Orefield, Pa.) chased down a ball in right corner and found an unguarded Rios for a one-touch game-winner.

Rios' ten shots accounted for nearly a third of the Husky attempts, 31, while four others recorded at least three. Huber was one. In goal, junior Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington, Pa.) earned the win (1-2) with one save. It came on a strike from senior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.), who along with DiGiovanni and McShane recorded two shots apiece for the Griffins. Sophomore midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) accounted for the other Griffin strike while Pauls totaled 12 saves in the loss (0-3).
