Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) earned the Griffins a 49-47 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph.
After leading for most of the first half, Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 2-7) went the final four minutes of the frame without scoring a bucket. As a result, Goldey-Beacom College (7-9, 4-5) took an 18-16 lead into the locker rooms. The Lightning lead lingered for most of the second half as senior forward
Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) and Gorczynski helped senior center
Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.), seven second-half blocks, keep the Lightning in a bottle. With 3:20 remaining, Farrow brought the Griffins within two points, 43-41, but it would not be until after a few fruitless changes of possession and a home time out that Coach Pruitt implemented the perfect inbound play, at 1:52, to find Gorczynski open for the first of two timely three-point baskets, 44-43. The second Gorczynski trifecta answered a Lighting layup just before the one-minute mark, 47-45 (1:07), but Lightning tied the contest for the last time at 0:42, when junior forward Chelsea Grover (Southampton, N.J.) brought all things even at 47-47. Fortunately, Townsend-Mobley managed to play hero once again, hitting the contest's winning jump shot with 31 second remaining (0:31), 49-47.
Grover's 14-point, ten-rebound double-double led the Lightning effort. She also provided two blocks and an assist in the loss. Junior guard Lillian Chukueze (Cherry Hill, N.J.) matched her production with 14 points to go with her nine rebounds and a block. Senior forward Briana Richmond-Peters (Camden, N.J.) recorded a team-high 11 rebounds while, in reserve, junior guard Shantia Creech (Philadelphia, Pa.) offered eight points, eight rebounds, and a steal.
Gorczynski hit 5-of-8 (.625) from beyond the arc, 5-of-12 (.417) from the floor, and 2-of-2 (1.000) from the free throw line in her team-leading 17-point performance. She also recorded two assists and a steal. Farrow scored all 14 of her points in the second half and finished he contest with five rebounds and two assists. Bouie contributed six points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and eight blocks to the Griffins second CACC victory.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule at Concordia College (NY) on Saturday, January 25, when the visit the Clippers for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
