Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/2/2014) – After leading by eight points at halftime, 32-24, and 12 points just after the break, 36-24 at 18:28, Holy Family University found themselves still fending off Chestnut Hill College as play reached the eight-minute mark. The resilient Griffins mid-second half rally, headlined by junior guard
Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.) and senior center
Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.), brought the home side within three points, 45-42, but no closer as the Tigers escaped Sorgenti Arena with a 61-50 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win.
Holy Family University (6-5, 3-0) owned a 32-24 halftime lead with a slight rebounding edge, 22-20, and their 13-9 turnover advantage outweighing a poor shooting performance from both sides (37.5% - 33.3% FG). Sophomore guard Erin Fenningham (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the primary benefactor of the Tigers superior first-half play with 11 points and six rebounds in the frame. In the closing frame, Felder fueled Chestnut Hill College's (1-10, 0-5) relentless pursuit of the Tigers. She scored 12 points in the frame and put Bouie in position to provide eight points and six rebounds in the paint, but the Griffin reprise would only bring the home side within three points, 45-42, by 8:33. Unfortunately, Fenningham and freshman guard Jill Conroy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) helped the Tigers secure an 11-point victory with a 16-8 run.
Fenningham totaled 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal as the Tigers top performer. Conroy complimented her effort with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while senior center Carolyne Heston (Feasterville, Pa.) contributed to the victory with nine points, 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals.
Felder finished the evening with a game-high 20 points while also recording four rebounds, a block, and three steals. Bouie came off the Griffin bench for 12 points, nine rebounds, an assist and two blocks, while 14 rebounds from senior forward
Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, N.J.) helped the Griffins keep pace.
The women's basketball team continues their CACC schedule on Saturday, January 4, when they host Caldwell College in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
