Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/29/2014) – For the Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team the 2014 season came to an end with today's 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss at cross-city rival, Philadelphia University. The league-leading Lady Rams scored twice in the opening 30 minutes, using 28-3 shot advantage to control the affair. Junior defender
Christina Mangeri (Muttontown, N.Y.) and freshman forward
Kylee Jazikoff (Brick, N.J.) accounted for the Griffins scoring opportunities while senior goalkeeper
Samantha Pauls (South Plainfield, N.J.) totaled nine saves in her final collegiate contest (2-11).
Nearly a full five minutes passed before either side could issue a strike, but it was Philadelphia University (11-6-1, 10-2) who served as the game's initial aggressor with junior midfielder Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J.) leading the charge. She fired the Lady Rams first shot, but Chestnut Hill College (3-14, 3-9) defense blocked that and the next before forcing the next series of shots high or wide of Pauls. Jazikoff provided the Griffin response with a header that sailed just wide of the Lady Ram goal at 16:26. Unfortunately, the home team's next cluster of shots reached goal, resulting in a rebound tally for senior forward Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass.) at 22:01, 1-0. Riding the high, the Lady Rams struck again just 8:26 later as sophomore midfielder Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y.) gathered a loose ball for a right-footed blast at 29:27, 2-0. The insurance would go unneeded, but not untested as Mangeri sent a ball high of the Lady Ram goal at 33:33.
After halftime Mangeri threatened again with her second shot finding the hands of junior goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa.) at the 54-minute mark (54:00). However, that would be the last strike the Griffins could muster as the Lady Rams possessed denied them any more chances in the final 36 minutes (36:00).
Van Antwerp scored on her only shot, a carom off of freshman midfielder Alexandra Reyes' (Vineland, N.J.) second shot while Graus scored, unassisted, on the first of three shots. Chmielewski led the Lady Rams with ten shots and Shaw earned with win (11-6-1) with one save.
The women's soccer team finished the 2014 season at 3-14 overall and 3-9 in the CACC.
