11/15/2014 2:47:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/15/2014) – Chestnut Hill College found itself leading by six in the first four minutes of this afternoon's contest against American International College, with senior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) scoring every point of an opening 8-2 run. But, it was all Yellow Jackets after that, as the Northeast-10 Conference school closed the first half on a 31-10 spurt and was never threatened again en route to a 78-56 victory at Philadelphia University's Gallagher Center. Gorczynski led all scorers for the second time in as many days, lighting up the scoreboard with 25 points to go with a team-best six rebounds.

Playing strong defense, Chestnut Hill College (0-2) took a 13-10 lead on a basket by freshman forward Brianne Morgera (Newport, R.I.), 10:47. Unfortunately, American International College (1-1) uncorked an 11-0 run over the next 3:15, going ahead for good on a jumper by junior guard Brianna Bishop (Suffield, Conn.), 14-13. With a 21-13 spread in hand, the Yellow Jackets methodically grew their lead from there, running the advantage to 18 at intermission, 41-23. The Griffins got as close as 13, 62-49, in the second half after a three-point play by Gorczynski at the 6:04 mark, but Bishop immediately answered with a three-pointer and American International College led by as many as 24 (75-51) before settling on a 78-56 final margin.

Bishop (7-of-12, team-high 19 points) and senior forward Krista Ferrentino (East Longmeadow, Mass.) (8-of-13, 18 points) combined for 37 points on 15-of-25 shooting (60 percent) to head the Yellow Jacket effort. Senior guard Alyssa Roach (New Bedford, Mass.) flirted with a triple-double, offering 11 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.

Gorczynski finished 9-of-23 (39.1%) from the floor for the Griffins, and could have had an even bigger afternoon if not for several shots that went halfway down before bouncing out; she also collected a game-high four steals. Freshman guard Nina Mazzarelli (West Chester, Pa.) supported Gorczynski with 11 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 output from the foul line, while senior guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.) provided eight points. Fellow senior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.) handed out a career-high seven assists (to just two turnovers) to go with four points, three rebounds, and a pair of steals.

The Griffins resume the quest for their first win of the season at Lincoln University on Tuesday, November 18. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
