Farrow Fuels Griffin Rally, But Lady Chargers Cling to CACC Win

2/1/2014 8:32:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (2/1/2014) – Chestnut Hill College trailed Dominican College by one at halftime and it took a closing period full of senior forward Annie Farrow (Ocean Township, Pa.) for the Griffins to keep the Lady Chargers close in a 65-62 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) defeat. Farrow tied her season-high with 20 points and received a 16-point supporting effort from junior guard Tenisha Townsend-Mobley (Pleasantville, N.J.), but the Griffins winning came to an end on a double-double, 20 points and 13 rebounds, from senior forward KC Jentzen (Pearl River, N.Y.).

Neither side owned more than a four-point lead in the opening half with Dominican College (7-12, 5-7) taking an early 10-6 advantage (14:42), before a strong Chestnut Hill College (6-13, 4-8) defense turned the tide. The Griffins claimed a three-point advantage, 17-14, on a Townsend-Mobley layup just past the eight-minute mark (7:56). Unfortunately, a three-point basket sophomore guard Deja Gabbidon (Teaneck, N.J.) quickly knotted the contest at 17-17 (7:37) only for the Griffins to regain the advantage, 19-17 (6:52), on layup from freshman guard Lauren Milligan (Gosport, England). But as the see-saw battle continued, the Lady Chargers would eventually claim a one-point halftime lead, 24-23, with a pair of Jentzen baskets ending their 7-4 closing run.

Soon after halftime, a jumper from Townsend-Mobley tied the contest, 27-27 (18:02), but despite a 16-point half from Farrow the Griffins would never lead again. They trailed by as many as 16 points, 51-35 (11:17), and came all the way back to cut the Lady Chargers lead to one point, 61-60 (0:30), on a converted three-point play by senior center Aimee Bouie (New Castle, Del.). With the final minute winding down, two free throws extended the visitor's lead to three points, 63-60 (0:29), but was promptly returned to one with a basket from Farrow with 0:18 remaining, 63-62. A Lady Charger miscue gave the Griffins a chance at the win, but a running shot from Townsend-Mobley missed its mark and another pair Jentzen free throws pushed the visitors to a three-point edge, 65-62.

The Lady Chargers shot 25.8% (8-of-31) against the Griffins first half defense but made up for it with a 23-18 rebounding advantage and a more frequent showing at the free throw line (7-of-9, .778). In the second half Jentzen, Gabbidon, and junior guard Lashonda Hathorne (Queens, N.Y.) did all they could to help the Lady Chargers hang on; Jentzen offering her double-double, Gabbidon totaling 11 points, nine rebounds, and two steals, and Hathorne recording 13 points, two rebounds, and three steals.

Farrow played the full 40 minutes and finished the affair with 20 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Townsend-Mobley totaled 16 points in addition to grabbing five rebounds, dealing an assist, and making two steals.

The women's basketball team stays local for their next CACC contest as they visit the University of the Sciences for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, February 5.
